“Officials provide update on Chiquita Canyon landfill containment efforts”

“Following years of noxious odor emission and liquids due to a chemical reaction inside the Chiquita Canyon Landfill in Castaic, landfill officials are providing updates on the measures being taken to contain and address the area. The California Environmental Protection Agency and the state Department of Toxic Substances Control say the situation poses “an imminent and substantial danger” to public health and the environment, and ordered the company to take corrective measures or face fines of up to $70,000 daily.”
